In my personal version of the ‘1000 Places To See Before You Die’ (a work in progress), Bodrum would be right up there at the top of the list. Correction. The Mandarin Oriental Bodrum would be.
Because in every respect, I just loved this laid-back and terribly sophisticated 60-hectare resort, with a forest as a backdrop and the golden sands of Paradise Bay under my feet. From the cool, huge rooms and bathrooms, to the spa and gym pavilion; from the formal restaurants to the beachside dining spots; from the breathtaking views to the efficiency of the staff, I left having nothing to say to the general manager at my handshake and farewell on the marble porch of the hotel entrance way, except, “I am speechless.”
To sum it up, I think what makes this particular resort stand out from the crowd is that the staff all seem to be having a good time too; they want you to enjoy the day and get the most out of your time in their beautiful surrounds. In addition, the fact that there are many luxury apartments and villas on the grounds owned by well-heeled individuals means that there are families and folk that come back year after year; they enjoy the place, the facilities, the services, and they love and respect the overall environment. It’s in their interest to look after things and enjoy their time here. Happiness is all around.
