Arrival experience

When approaching small properties, I always have that niggling feeling that when my taxi arrives at the destination, I’ll need to hunt down someone to provide assistance with my arrival. All signs of a good first impression were evident when two door staff appeared just as my vehicle pulled up to the hotel entrance. Friendly greetings and quick assistance with my luggage led to an escort to the discretely-located and quite attractive reception lounge. The on-duty manager offered a choice of welcome beverages and after completing the brief check-in formalities, provided escort to my room, recounting a history of the restored buildings en route.

Rooms and suites

All of the rooms and suites at The Treasury are generously sized. My Heritage Balcony room was at least 50 m² (538 ft²) and the tall ceilings and neutral colour palette made the room feel even more spacious. The thick carpets, brick walls and sound proofed windows made for a quiet and serene setting. The décor was modern and sophisticated.

Adjacent to the large television and entertainment system was the well-stocked minibar, which included a number of locally-sourced products. In addition to a range of espresso pods for the coffeemaker were a nice selection of high-quality teas.

In-room technology was well-considered in the design of the rooms. Lots of charging sockets, AC and USB, an easy-to-navigate remote control for the television and sound system, and easy-to-connect and blinding fast Internet were much appreciated. The air con system functioned precisely as one would want—quick to cool and absolutely silent.

The bathroom

My bathroom, as with other bathrooms at the hotel, was quite spacious. Covered in travertine, the bathroom featured a dual-basin vanity with plenty of counter space for toiletries and the hotel’s Shambhala products. Light and bright due to the large windows, the bathroom was quite open and included a free-standing tub and extremely large shower cabin, with both rain shower and handheld fixtures.

As with all features of the hotel, the bathroom fixtures were high-quality and attractive. Lighting was extremely good and the hairdryer easy to locate.

Especially appreciated on a cold Perth night was the heated bathroom floor. The bathroom also incorporated a full wardrobe closet with plenty of space for garments.

Dining

Post serves as the hotel’s all-day dining venue. The casual, modern atmosphere complements the Australian bistro fare, with particular focus on healthy and natural ingredients.

The light and bright ambiance of the space is enhanced by the white painted brick and light grey upholstered banquettes, with an enormous tree at the centre of the restaurant providing an attractive focal point for the venue. The brightness of the space, as well as well as a couple of perfectly-prepared macchiatos, provided for the perfect morning pick-me-up. That, and the ebullient and extremely personable wait staff. Across several meals here, as well as at some of the other venues, I was quite impressed by the universally exceptional service provided.

The foods offered, breakfast items in particular were, without exception, extremely good. At breakfast, I usually ordered from one of the many spa-cuisine items, a particular favourite being the egg white and kale omelette with mushrooms and roasted tomatoes. Light and flavourful, the omelette went quite well with the delicious, toasted sourdough.

A selection of fresh fruits and pastries were available at the buffet, along with an assortment of cold cuts and a selection of tasty juices, including a daily vegetable mixture.

Other restaurant options

For weekday lunch or dinner (except on Mondays), Wildflower serves as the hotel’s elegant dining venue. Advance reservations are absolutely recommended as the restaurant is, justifiably, quite popular. Located atop the hotel, Wildflower is a beautiful, contemporary space and a multi-award winner.

In addition to the hotel venue, several other dining spots are located within the same complex including a wine bar and shop and an excellent Thai restaurant in the basement.

Spa and wellness

The hotel’s Shambhala spa facilities provides the usual range of massage and other body treatments. As with all of the hotel’s facilities, the spa reception area and four treatment rooms are attractive and serene. I only wish that treatments at the facility were available a bit later in the day (the spa closes each day at 6pm).

Several Yoga and pilates classes—serving both hotel guests and locals—are available each day, with private lessons possible as well.

Located on an upper floor of the hotel, and overlooking the hotel pool, is an extremely well-equipped gymnasium. Given the small number of rooms in the hotel, the gym had a surprisingly large number of machines on offer, all of the latest generation.

Pool and beach

The hotel’s indoor pool is a beauty that’s located at the top of the hotel. It’s a reasonably good size for laps and is surrounded by tall glass windows that provide a view of the city centre below.

Staff and service

During the course of my stay, I interacted with at least twenty members of the hotel staff. Each and every person I met was friendly, personable, responsive and, importantly, completely unpretentious. I can’t speak highly enough about the quality of service at The Treasury.

Guest profile

The mix of guests is what one would expect at a top-tier city hotel. Well-dressed businessmen and women, international tourists, including young couples and their families from Asia, and several domestic travellers. One can recognise easily why The Treasury would be popular as a stay-cation destination.

Departure experience

As with my arrival experience, my check-out experience was smooth and enjoyable. I had a quick chat with the duty manager to confirm that my stay was up to the hotel’s standards and was offered assistance with my luggage and my waiting car.
