Palazzo Avino is an elegant hotel located in the charming medieval village of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast. Situated on the cliffs some 1,000 feet above the sea, from up here there are sweeping views over the Mediterranean and the picturesque fishing villages below.
Created with style and panache from a 12th century villa that was once home to a noble family, the hotel perfectly preserves architectural details including many of its original medieval and Baroque features, whilst most of the furniture is from the 18th and 19th century. Palazzo Avino’s famous and distinguished past guest list has included classical singer Placido Domingo (who was the very first through the doors) and noted American author, Gore Vidal.
Most of the bedrooms and suites feature jacuzzi baths and unique sea views, and a selection come with either a balcony or terrace for those who’d like to make the most of the breeze. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the climate, so head up to the rooftop that features a magnificent sun deck with hydromassage plunge pools, whilst the outdoor swimming pool and its surroundings enjoy stunning views over the coast. Or if you’re feeling a little more energetic, there’s a serene outdoor gym.
One of the most popular daytime hotspots is the hotel’s private Clubhouse by the Sea beach club located at the foot of the mountain, only 15 minutes away via complimentary shuttle service. Here you’ll find sunbathing platforms, an outdoor pool, a restaurant featuring the fresh catch of the day and, best of all, access to the brilliant blue Mediterranean waters. If you tire of the sunshine, venture back to the hotel and treat yourself to a spa treatment at the full-service spa complete with sauna, steam bath and hydrotherapy pool.
Dining at Palazzo Avino is superb, and Rossellini’s boasts a Michelin star. The restaurant serves fine Italian haute cuisine and superb wines, whilst the stylish lobby bar and the outdoor Terrazza Belvedere restaurant offer an array of delicious snacks and fresh pasta dishes. For something extra special, there’s the Chef’s Table experience at Rossellini’s for just four people. The menu is based on an ancient Neapolitan game, La Tombola, where numbers correspond to each dish to add a sense of fun to the tasting menu.
