You can step outside the hotel and enjoy a complete change of scene. The Mandarin Oriental Macau is connected to One Central, a high-end shopping mall considered to be one of Macau’s best and home to high-end brands including Cartier, Hermès, Gucci, Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton. The mall also leads, in air-conditioned comfort (a godsend in the summer heat), to the MGM Macau where the spectacular atrium – with its brightly coloured installation art in a garden theme – is worth a look even if you don’t want to venture into the actual casino.

Just so you know
Just so you know

It’s a well-known fact that Macau is famous for its sprawling and (some might say) over-the-top casinos. They are, after all, the main reason to visit. But the Mandarin Oriental Macau doesn’t have a casino so you won’t find throngs of people milling about 24/7 in the public areas. And with only 213 rooms and suites, the hotel is ‘boutique’ compared to most of the other five-star properties. It’s a refreshingly serene place to stay, whether you have come to try your luck at the tables or simply want to witness the territory’s incredible spectacle of neon lights (as seen in films such as Skyfall).

Those interested in discovering Macau beyond its casino and bar scene will like this hotel. Just a short walk away are the Macao Cultural Centre, housing the Macao Museum of Art and hosting a variety of concerts, and colonial downtown Macau, where you’ll find sites including the Ruins of the Church of St Paul. Those visiting with children will find that the Mandarin Oriental Macau is a great option and special highlights for little ones include the kids’ Jacuzzi next to the pool, use of Xbox and PlayStations available on request and a special children’s turndown service.
