Esperanza, An Auberge Resort is Los Cabos’ most trendy beachfront property. Come dressed to kill or come as you are – anything goes. Located at the very tip of the Baja Peninsula, this 57-room resort (plus 60 privately-owned villas) is positioned above a beautiful shoreline with gorgeous views of the ocean and, from some rooms, the Cabo rock formations in the distance. You’ll spot a whale or two passing by, migrating elsewhere, during the winter months.
The backdrop provides a romantic and relaxing setting for the well-furnished public spaces and suites, tastefully decorated in a Baja California desert style – refined and attractive. Thatched roof details, exposed beams, plaster walls, straw hats as wall furnishings and terracotta tiles in restrained colours amount to holiday feel-good features.
Some of Esperanza’s rooms – casitas – face the sea and offer ocean views; the garden variety boasts only the briefest of peeks at the water. Most rooms and suites are located in one of seven, four-story buildings that ring a large sloped lawn featuring a terraced, ocean-front swimming pool that serves as the daytime social area. All come with a large, private terrace (some have Jacuzzis), well-suited for in-room dining. In the evening, terraces are illuminated by large, candle-lit lanterns that provide a romantic and private setting. Nespresso machines and an extremely large flat-screen TV means you’ll never have to leave your room in the mornings till hunger gets the better of you.
There are several restaurant choices – all with outdoor seating – from Mexican to continental and boozy barbeques on the beach. Take a cabana by the adult pool (there’s a family pool too) and have your meals and a massage right there. Heavenly, if you’re here to unwind.
There’s a kids’ club for those 4 to 11 years of age. And for adult adventurers, there’s a host of activities – everything from deep-sea marlin fishing, golfing, sailing and camel-riding, to name a few. Everyone of every age will benefit from time spent in the spa, where the sun-baked stone massage is pretty popular, as are the yoga and pilates classes offered and the gym itself. Treat yourself to a fresh and fantastic seafood dinner at the very special Cocina del Mar at night, followed by a nightcap down on the beach, toes in the sand.
