Beautifully tucked away on Mexico’s stunning Riviera Maya, the Banyan Tree Mayakoba is located where the Caribbean Sea meets the jungle and tropical lagoons. Here you will find Banyan Tree’s superlative Asian hospitality and flair, alongside Mexican touches and sumptuous villa living.
Set in the Mayakoba area of Riviera Maya, the name Mayakoba, in Mayan, means ‘village over the water’, and indeed this private gated resort development is where you will find some of the region’s most exclusive hotels. Stay at Banyan Tree Mayakoba, and you will luxuriate in the top-class hotel facilities and yet be surrounded by the spectacular nature that the Riviera Maya is famed for, from exotic birds to incredible marine life.
Accommodation is all villas, and whether you’re planning a trip with family, friends, just for two or as a solo traveller, there’s a room to suit all scenarios. From the romantic Bliss and Serenity Pool Villas to Family Residences and Beachfront Villas, they all have that touch of Asian magic.
Continuing with the Mexico-meets-Asia theme, dining options include the resort’s signature restaurant Saffron, where you can savour fine Thai cuisine. Or try the Sands restaurant at the beach club for great seafood and traditional Mexican fare. Then there’s Cello, the Italian restaurant with its pool bar and stunning rooftop lounge, as well as other special dining experiences including a breakfast or dinner cruise along the waterways aboard Ixchel, the traditional trajinera boat. After something more private? Book an in-villa barbecue, whilst the resort’s tequila tasting is a must if you like a decent tipple.
The Thai-inspired Banyan Tree Spa is the best place to completely unwind, and the rainforest hydrothermal circuit is perfect for loosening stiff limbs before a Banyan Signature treatment. Try the Royal Banyan massage that uses a warm herbal poultice dipped in sesame oil. Yoga is available too.
There’s also a fitness centre, tennis courts, a nature trail for walks and bike rides, as well as access to the Greg Norman signature 18-hole El Camaleón golf course, home to the PGA Tour Mayakoba Classic. For little ones, there’s a kids’ club complete with a playroom, video games and fun activities.
