One of Bangkok’s most popular luxury hotels, this 25-year-old gem still manages to impress with ease when pitted against the many glossy newcomers. It’s the managing company’s resort ethos that sets the Banyan Tree Bangkok experience apart. It leaves nothing to chance.

For a city hotel slap bang in the heart of Bangkok’s central business district, Banyan Tree does a fantastic job of cosseting guests in true luxury, with an air of romance and some legendary Asian hospitality to boot.

The tallest hotel in Bangkok, Banyan Tree is renowned for its uninterrupted views, the best in town. The open-air, rooftop Vertigo and Moon Bar on the 61st floor – one of ten bars and restaurants – is the ‘top’ place for taking in the views, and is a must for dinner when the panorama is turbocharged with city night lights. For another great dining experience, book a table on the hotel’s river barge and feast on royal Thai cuisine as you cruise along the Chao Phraya.

Banyan Tree is within easy access of downtown Bangkok’s shopping centres and Silom Road’s restaurants and markets, while Lumphini Park is close by if you crave green space. Need some exercise? Do a few laps in the swimming pool on the 21st floor before flopping onto a sun lounger to catch some rays with a smoothie from the juice bar. Or head to the health club for a steam bath or a sauna, unless a spot of aerobics or a step lesson is more the order of the day. Without a doubt, Banyan Tree Spa is the best way to indulge. A virtual village in size, choose from a wide range of therapies in one of many treatment rooms, some with access to private bathing facilities.

When it’s finally time to retire to bed, traditional Thai meets modern in the rooms at this all-suite hotel. With a spacious feel, even the smallest offers a seating area, teak wood furniture and Thai silk touches. For even more luxury, opt for Club accommodation, which comes with access to the Banyan Tree Club Lounge, where you’ll be granted a host of special privileges.

Baring All
  • Great-sized rooms but our picks are the Oasis Retreats or Serenity Club room
  • Yes, the hotel is 25 years old but don’t let that put you off - it’s impeccably maintained

  • Some of the hottest dining spots in Bangkok - Vertigo and Saffron in particular. Reservations essential

  • Best-kept secret - the newly renovated Latitude Bar is not to be missed

Why we like it
Why we like it

It’s a given in all luxury hotels in Bangkok that the service will be gracious and warm, and that’s how it is here too. But what really sets this hotel apart are its very large guestrooms and suites (including even the Horizon rooms, the lead-in room category) and the incredible selection of dining options offered, most of which continue to be Bangkok hotspots including Vertigo, Vertigo Too and the revamped Latitude Lounge & Bar.

This hotel works equally well for families on vacation as for a businessperson or honeymooners. And even better, it’s great value for money.

Just so you know
Just so you know

When it comes to room choices, we think the open-plan Oasis Retreats are the way to go, with their resort-style bathrooms, complimentary additional amenities and exclusive access to the Living Room on the 11th floor.

Want to move it up a notch? On levels 50-58, the recently renovated Serenity Club rooms come with chic decor, drop-dead views and access to the hotel’s extensive Club Lounge (one of the best we have seen in a long time). It also offers an array of complimentary food and beverages throughout the day and other exclusive services.

This is one of those rare hotels that works just as well for families (large rooms and suites, many of which interconnect) as it does for business travellers, couples on vacation and honeymooners. The hotel retains the Banyan Tree resort’s feel through touches such as large windows to provide lots of natural light, and oil burners with a selection of scented aromas.

If you’re a foodie, you can’t go wrong: the selection of dining options will have you eating yourself into a frenzy for days.  Saffron (Thai cuisine), Vertigo and the Chinese fare at Bai Yan are all fabulous.

Spa junkies will appreciate Banyan Tree’s reputation as a leading spa operator, showcased at Banyan Tree Bangkok, where they can indulge on a daily basis.
