Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is a peaceful all-villa resort at the tip of the north-western coastline of Phuket. Even though it’s positioned on the longest beach on the island and near to a cluster of large resorts the area is relatively quiet, and the resort has a peaceful feel.

Enveloped in the pristine Sirinath National Park and inspired by the traditional wooden houses like those found in the south of Thailand, the resort has a village-style ambience. Guest villas are dotted amongst the beautiful indigenous gardens and tropical lagoons, and starting at 186 sq m (2,002 sq ft) they are spacious pads indeed.

Each one features a private garden where you will find your own pool complete with a luxurious inset bath as well as a large wooden deck and at least one sala for entertaining. Indoors, the style is Thai chic: think high wooden walls with large shuttered windows which, when open, give way to stunning views out towards such pretty scenes as ponds topped with lotus flowers. If you need extra space, there are two or three bedroom villas, perfect for family or friends.

There are plenty of dining options including in-villa dining, or there’s the romantic Dining by Design experience where you can choose a secluded spot somewhere in the resort to enjoy dinner for two catered to your tastes. But the main dining venues here include La Sala that serves spicy Thai and Indian cuisine and the beachside Sea.Fire.Salt which offers great seafood. The Infinity Bar serves light snacks and cake throughout the day to keep hunger at bay in gorgeous surroundings.

Any spa aficionado should head to the Anantara Spa and indulge in a signature massage that combines eastern and western techniques with reflexology. The resort also has a fitness centre and tennis courts and offers a host of activities including cooking lessons, kayaking, windsurfing, cycling tours, yoga and the opportunity to try traditional Thai boxing. For little ones, there’s a kids’ programme and Turtle Village leisure complex is just a short walk away, so you can shop ‘til you drop.
