With a subtropical climate and plenty of sunshine — even in the rainy season — and endless attractions, the Sunshine State is the kind of place that will have you wanting to return time and time again. Florida is famous for its glorious sunrises and sunsets, its trademark miles of dazzling white sands, its world-class theme parks, and the Kennedy Space Center. You’ll find cities like Miami satisfy cravings for partying and shopping, but if it’s an outdoor adventure you’re looking for, hit the national parks.
For the fun fix it has to be Orlando. Young and the young-at-heart will love the thrills and spills of the legendary theme parks from Walt Disney World’s Epcot to Universal Studios, and many more that offer the full spectrum of white knuckle rides, fantasy kingdoms, movie-themed tours and wildlife encounters. One trip — even one holiday — is never enough.
And if it’s city style action you crave, stay in Miami. When you’ve taken a look at the famous Art Deco buildings on Ocean Drive and the exciting arts scene, there’s fantastic shopping to be had (the Bal Harbour Mall beckons), fabulous restaurants, and hip and happening bars and nightlife. But the town of Palm Beach where upscale retail therapy is there for the taking along the famed Worth Avenue, and Naples with its shopping opportunities on Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South, its golf courses and art galleries, are two more contenders. And that’s before we’ve even set foot on the beaches…
There are plenty of beautiful beaches across the state but it depends on your chill-out style as to where you’ll feel most ‘at home’. Like people-watching, getting dressed up to the nines and stylish pool parties? Head to Miami’s South Beach. Or for a much more low key and local scene, try Key Biscayne, an exclusive stretch with quaint neighbourhoods and awesome multi-million dollar homes. For a totally laid-back place to unwind venture to Sanibel Island or Captiva Island, or head down to the tropical paradise of the Florida Keys, where the water is exceptionally clear and perfect for snorkelling and diving.
For a wildlife adventure, the Everglades National Park is a fantastic place to spend a day exploring with a guide who will bring the wetlands to life. As you speed across the water by airboat, keep an eye out for alligators, dolphins, ospreys, pelicans and the endangered manatees. If you prefer to enjoy the outdoors by foot or bike, take a picnic and head out to Florida’s parks to pass a leisurely hour or two.
And before you leave Florida, do make sure you taste the incredible tropical fruits—a slice of a famous ‘key lime’ pie or a delicious fruity cocktail should do the trick we think!
